To create a simple short URL, you need a destination URL, which is the main link users will be redirected to when they click on your short link.
What is a Short Link?
A short link is a condensed version of a long URL that redirects users to a specific destination when clicked. It makes sharing and tracking links easier.
What is a Destination URL?
A destination URL is the original web address to which a short link points. When users click on a short link, they are redirected to the destination URL.
What is a QR URL and Why is it Important?
A new QR URL is created when you generate a QR code for a short link. This URL includes /q/ in its path, distinguishing it from a regular short link.
For example:
- Short URL:
https://blink.app/103dc2
- QR URL:
https://blink.app/q/103dc2
The structure follows this format: Domain URL + /q/ + keyword
Why Does /q Matter?
The /q/ segment helps track QR code scans separately from link clicks. The system calculates and differentiates between these two actions:
- Clicks come from users who open the short link directly.
- Scans come from users who scan the QR code.
Avoiding Analytics Confusion
If users manually generate a QR code from a short URL (without using the system-generated QR URL), all scans may be counted as clicks instead. This can cause discrepancies in analytics.
By using the system-generated QR URL with /q/, you ensure accurate tracking of QR code scans in your account.
